Boot in single user mode
when you get to the boot prompt (or the drive selection screen in Chameleon 2) type in “-s” (without quotes) and press Enter to boot. Eventually it should get to a #root prompt

Instalar kexts
Supongamos que dejas el kext en el escritorio, entonces entras a Terminal y escribes:
sudo cp -r ~/Desktop/Nombre_del.kext /System/Library/Extensions/
Pero también es nesesario borrar lo caches de los kexts con la siguiente instrucción:
sudo rm /System/Libarary/Extensions.kextcache /System/Library/Extensions.mkext
sudo chmod -r 755 .kext
sudo chown -r root:wheel .kext
ATI HD 2600XT
I was not sucessfull (no QE!) with this way for a MSI RX2600PRO 512MB for PCI-Express.
BUT i have found the right patch for this (only install and go) on the iPC_OSx86_10_5_6_Universal_PPF5_Final DVD in the Folder: /System/Installation/Packages/OSx86Patches/
Filename: RHD2600ProPCIE
BTW: In this folder you also find a driver for 2600XT and more!
Have the same problem when i manage to get my mobility HD2600 working.
I thinks it’s because you have no QE/CI, just check in “Apple”->”About this mac”->”More info…”->”Video Card” if you have “Quartz Extreme” and “Core Image” “enabled”.
If not, you will have to wait for a workink QE/CI kext…
Probar cuando la instalación va mal:
cpus=1
-v cpus=1
-s -x cpus=1
-f
Enable Quartz Extreme 2D
For Cards which have Driver support. To check goto System Profiler -> Graphic/Display. If it says No Kext Loaded. It means u DONT have driver supoort.
Method 1
  1. Open com.apple.windowserver.plist
  2. This file is located in /Library/Preferences
  3. Change the Quartz2DExtremeEnabled value to YES.
Method 2?
  1. open terminal
  2. enter: sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver Quartz2DExtremeEnabled 1
  3. By the way: you may find this command on the net aswell: sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver Quartz2DExtremeEnabled -boolean YES – it does perfectly the same like the first command and is only a matter of taste!
  4. then reboot and be happy.

  • CI = Core Image -> Info. – http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/coreimage/
  • Q2DE = Quartz 2D extreme
  • GUID: Partition format used for booting on an Intel Mac. . Also known as GPT (GUID Partition Table). GUID is used instead of MBR (Master Boot Record) and is not supported by Windows XP or it’s predecessors. GUID is supported by Windows Vista but only for reading data. Vista will only boot from GUID on [EFI (Extensible Firmware Interface)][1] based systems. GUID doesn’t have the partition size, file size, or partition number limitations that the older less efficient MBR standard. . .
  • EFI: Extensible Firmware Interface: The Unified EFI (UEFI) specification (previously known as the EFI specification) defines an interface between an operating system and platform firmware. The interface consists of data tables that contain platform-related information, boot service calls, and runtime service calls that are available to the operating system and its loader. These provide a standard environment for booting an operating system and running pre-boot applications.
Ironically, Microsoft Windows support BIOS only, and Apple makes Boot camp to fill the gap. The EFI patch works in a similar approach: it emulates EFI data for normal BIOS-based PCs and let OS X treat them as genuine EFI-based Macs.
